Postgraduate studies "Diplomacy and Foreign Service"
The Center for the Study of Diplomacy at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) offers the prestigious, tuition-free postgraduate program “Diplomacy and Foreign Service.”. The program is currently in its second edition and has attracted nearly three times as many applicants as there are available places. Ultimately, 45 participants, selected through a competitive admissions process, will spend two semesters exploring the theory and practice of diplomacy during intensive weekend sessions featuring expert lectures, discussions, unique educational opportunities, and networking with participants from across Poland.
Courses are delivered through lectures, seminars, discussion classes, and practical workshops. The faculty consists primarily of officials from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including members of the MFA Diplomatic Academy, current and former diplomats from Poland and abroad, as well as scholars and analysts affiliated with Polish and international think tanks and universities specializing in diplomacy and international affairs.
Aim of the studies:
The postgraduate program in Diplomacy and Foreign Service is designed to expand participants’ knowledge of the Polish foreign service, the work of diplomatic and consular missions, and the functioning of international institutions, with particular emphasis on the European Union.
Throughout the program, participants will develop their understanding of geopolitics, international relations, international law, and European Union law, as well as the legal framework governing diplomacy and consular affairs. They will also become familiar with the principles of diplomatic protocol and precedence and explore emerging fields of contemporary diplomacy, including public diplomacy, digital diplomacy, and historical diplomacy.
Recipients:
The postgraduate program “Diplomacy and foreign service” is intended for graduates of bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as doctoral students and young researchers seeking to broaden their expertise in diplomacy, foreign policy, geopolitics, history, international law, and international relations, as well as state and local government officials. The offer of postgraduate studies is addressed primarily to graduates of social science studies (political science, law, journalism, international relations, economics, management) or humanities (history, art history, philosophy, theology, classical philology, modern languages, linguistics, Polish studies), but graduates of other fields of study are also accepted.
Classes:
Most classes are conducted in person and are organized in the form of weekend sessions held on Friday afternoons and throughout Saturdays and Sundays.
